Mayor of Kingston, Senator Councillor Delroy Williams, emphasises a point during the monthly meeting of the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation in downtown Kingston, on March 14.

The Full Story

About 10,000 students in Kingston and St. Andrew received assistance with back-to-school expenses over the past three years, totalling more than $60 million.

The assistance was facilitated by the Kingston and St. Andrew Municipal Corporation (KSAMC) and Councillors of the Municipality.

This was disclosed by Mayor of Kingston, Senator Councillor Delroy Williams, during today’s (September 12) meeting of the KSAMC at its Church Street offices, in downtown Kingston.

The Mayor encouraged the students, particularly those who benefited from this year’s assistance, to “make good use of it”.

“Good use of it for us means doing their best, doing their utmost best, to show appreciation to the Council for our efforts,” he said.

The Mayor recognised the players that have been integral to the process.

“I take this opportunity to say thanks to the Councillors for their work and to the staff here and at the Poor Relief for the efforts over this back-to-school period,” he said.

The provision assisted a mixture of mostly students attending primary and secondary institutions.

The 2023/24 academic year began on Monday, September 4.
