Another 39 remarkable Jamaicans from various age groups and backgrounds are now recipients of the Governor-General’s Achievement Awards (GGAA).

During Friday’s (July 19) national presentation ceremony at King’s House, Governor-General, His Excellency the Most Hon. Sir Patrick Allen, hailed the 2024 awardees for their remarkable achievements and for demonstrating outstanding personal success and leadership within their communities.

“Each of their stories is a testament to the incredible resilience and the determination that define us as a nation and a people. We honour you… for using what is right with Jamaica to fix what is wrong with Jamaica,” he said.

The Governor-General implored the awardees, all of whom he described as embodying the essence of excellence and service, to continue looking inward to discover their boundless talents and strengths, and outwards to see how they can continue to fulfill their purposes.

He particularly hailed their resilience displayed during challenging periods, such as the COVID-19 pandemic and the recent passage of the impactful Category Four Hurricane Beryl.

The Governor-General noted that the theme for this year’s Awards: ‘A Legacy of Excellence, Achievement and Service’, “perfectly encapsulates the spirit of our nation, built on resilience, unity and an unwavering commitment to excellence.”

St. Andrew’s awardee in the 25-35 age group, Vashan Brown, responding on behalf of the recipients, deemed it a “significant achievement” to be counted among those who have made an indelible mark on Jamaica.

“At the same time, we cannot pause, we cannot rest, we cannot stop. Our communities still need us, our country still needs us, the world still needs us,” Mr. Brown said.

He expressed appreciation to the Governor-General and Lady Allen for “continuing to recognize and promote excellence among young people in Jamaica.”
