The Full Story

The Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF), under a partnership with the New Social Housing Programme (NSHP), will provide $500 million to fund housing for tourism workers who live in substandard conditions.

Prime Minister, the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, made the disclosure during his contribution to the 2024/25 Budget Debate in the House of Representatives on Thursday (March 21).

“This is a big deal and gives us the opportunity to partner with hotels…to double the number of houses that we can build,” he said.

Meanwhile, he informed that as of March 5, a total of 213 housing units benefitting almost 800 individuals across 55 constituencies have been completed under the NSHP.

There are 51 active construction sites across 25 constituencies.

The NSHP falls under the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation.

It was developed to improve the housing condition of the country’s poorest and most disadvantaged population by providing quality, affordable and sustainable housing.

It entails three components – provision of indigent housing across all 63 constituencies; relocation of vulnerable communities; and the upgrading of tenement yards, with one per constituency and up to a maximum of 30 units per upgrade.
