The Full Story

Persons seeking employment in the tourism sector are being invited to attend a Job Fair at the Montego Bay Convention Centre in St. James, on Thursday, December 8, beginning at 8:30 a.m.

The event is being organised by the Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF), in collaboration with the HEART/NSTA Trust and the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association (JHTA).

In an interview with JIS News, Director, Jamaica Centre of Tourism Innovation, Carol Rose Brown, informed that the Job Fair is open to all who are interested in having a career in tourism, especially those who completed the recent TEF Job Readiness Programme and have not yet been employed.

Recent graduates with certificates from the HEART/NSTA Trust are also being accommodated.

“We want to invite as many people as possible. Tourism is the engine of our country’s economic development. It is a huge sector, it is increasing. There is a number of jobs available,” said Ms. Brown.

Several employers within the accommodation sector of the tourism industry will be on location to facilitate interviews with prospective employees.

“I can’t think of anybody who is not potentially a candidate for a post in tourism. It is one of the few places you can start at the bottom and work your way up to any post you want. There is training [and] certification available as you go along to help you get the credentials and the experience you need. So, anybody who is interested in going in the direction of a career in tourism, please check us out. Come talk to us and let us try to help you get on this path,” said Ms. Brown.

She further indicated that representatives from the Montego Bay Chamber of Commerce and the business process outsourcing sector were also invited to participate in the Job Fair.

Persons are being asked to walk with a copy of their résumé.
