The cheques for teachers’ salaries of non bursar-paid schools, including retroactive sums, have been sent to the regional offices of the Ministry of Education.
The sums for bursar paid schools were uploaded yesterday by the National Commercial Bank (NCB). Accounts in banks other than NCB are to be credited by 3:00 o’clock this afternoon.
The cheques for the retroactive and regular salaries of watchmen will be sent out tomorrow morning for payment on December 23, the normal payday for that category.
The Industrial Disputes Tribunal (IDT) had ruled in October that the government should pay $500 million this year of the $8 billion owed to public sector teachers.
The IDT said the remaining $7.5 billion are to be paid in three equal instalments over the next three financial years.
