The Trelawny Association of Volunteer Organizations (TAVO) continues to honour persons in that parish for their dedicated contribution to nation building through volunteerism.
This year, a concert and awards ceremony will be held at the Starfish Trelawny Resort on Tuesday, December 5, under the patronage of the Custos Rotulorum of Trelawny, Royland Barrett.
TAVO’s Chairman, Carlton Gordon, told JIS News that six persons would be recognized at the function.
“The areas that will be given special consideration this year are, HIV/AIDS support, development of youth, the advancement of women, care of the disabled and elderly, protection and preservation of the environment, promotion and preservation of our culture, and social development at the community and national levels,” he informed.
“The official sponsors for this concert and awards ceremony are British Airways, Sandals Royal Caribbean, Point Village Resort and the Environmental Foundation of Jamaica in collaboration with the Council of Voluntary Social Services (CVSS),” he said.
Mr. Gordon appealed to Trelawny residents to support TAVO in this venture and help in securing a bright future for the parish and the country as a whole. The theme for this year’s International Volunteer Day is ‘Partnering for National Development: Together we can achieve more’ and a special award will be presented to an overall outstanding volunteer of the year.
Each year, December 5 is celebrated worldwide as International Volunteer Day, having been designated as such in 1995 by the United Nations General Assembly.
