The Full Story

Tax Administration Jamaica (TAJ) is reminding taxpayers that General Consumption Tax (GCT) returns for the month of May are due on Monday, June 30.

The TAJ says the returns may be filed and paid online via the Jamaica Tax Portal, at www.jamaicatax-online.gov.jm

However, the TAJ is advising business persons who pay GCT online, that they must ensure that the return is also filed, as failure to file a GCT return, even where a payment is made, is a breach.

A penalty of 15 per cent of the amount due and payable may be imposed for failure to file the return.

To file online, persons need to have access to the filing section of the Virtual Tax Office and have on hand a login, which is obtained through self-registration, the business name and address, the filing period as well as a password for filing.

To pay online, taxpayers need to have a valid credit card, an email address and a Taxpayer Registration Number (TRN). In addition to filing GCT online, property tax, payroll taxes, income tax and traffic ticket transactions may also be done online.
