Submissions for JPC Poster Competition Close Today

Secondary school students have until 4:00 p.m. today, September 27, to submit their entries for the Jamaica Productivity Centre’s (JPC) poster competition.

Entries can be handed in at the JPC’s Office, 72 Harbour Street in Kingston, or at any Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MLSS) parish offices island-wide.

Communications Specialist at the JPC, Tenneisha Nelson, informed that the competition forms part of activities to mark National Productivity Awareness Week, to be observed from October 7 to 11, under the theme: ‘Productivity Pathway to Competitiveness and Growth’. It targets students 14 to 18 years old in schools island-wide.

“We have asked the students to design a poster, which depicts the theme for the week in a creative manner. We have also asked them to include the JPC logo, as well as a slogan to show that they understand what the productivity concept is all about,” she said.

Ms. Nelson was addressing a Think Tank held on Tuesday, September 24, at the Jamaica Information Service’s (JIS) Half-Way-Tree Road headquarters in Kingston.

She said that the poster competition, introduced in 2009, give students the opportunity to grasp the concept of productivity, which is an important element to national development, and also to allow them to channel their energy into meaningful activities.

She informed that the contest opened in June, and since then “we have been receiving some excellent entries, and we are still anticipating a lot more.”

The winner of this year’s competition will receive a computer tablet and trophy, as well as a desktop computer for the school that he/she attends.

The runner-up will receive a book voucher valued at $25,000, a bank account valued at $10,000, along with a trophy, with a $15,000 book voucher, a trophy, and a $10,000 bank account will go to the third place finisher.
