Executive Director of the Scientific Research Council, Dr. Charah Watson, says student entrepreneurs should not hesitate to take advantage of the SRC’s resources.

The Full Story

Student entrepreneurs are being encouraged to seek support from the Scientific Research Council (SRC).

“We want students to see the SRC as a critical resource, and we want students to take up the opportunities that exist through the SRC,” Executive Director of the entity, Dr. Charah Watson, told JIS News.

One of the ways the SRC offers support is through product development in its pilot plants that allow for the production of food and personal care items.

Dr. Watson said a technology commercialisation suboffice is also being established at the entity’s Hope Gardens Complex in Kingston. It will offer entrepreneurs and innovators assistance in getting their products on the market.

“Commercialisation is a very in-depth process… to get that prototype out and getting that marketing engagement is a limiting factor. So, our commercialisation suboffice will help with this in some regard,” Dr. Watson explained.

She added that students should not hesitate to take advantage of the SRC’s resources.

“Reach out to us. We are here to lend you support and be that guiding light on your quest as you move from this stage of your life to the next,” Dr. Watson said.

The SRC is currently assisting student entrepreneurs of the St. Andrew-based Papine High School, following their call for approval of their personal-care products.

The items are manufactured under the school’s shampoo and lotion project.
