The Full Story

The Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN) has reported that the inflation rate for December 2025 was 1.3 per cent, compared to November 2025.

Director General, Leesha Delatie‑Budair, shared the details during a press briefing at the AC Hotel by Marriott Kingston on Thursday (January 15).

She explained that the main drivers of the inflation rate in December were housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, which rose by 2.6 per cent, noting that “this was the largest divisional increase”.

The Director General further indicated that food and non‑alcoholic beverages increased by two per cent, while personal care and miscellaneous services rose by 0.5 per cent.

Ms. Delatie‑Budair advised that the point‑to‑point inflation rate, reflecting the average change in prices between December 2024 and December 2025, was 4.5 per cent.

“The main factors influencing the point-to-point inflation rate were food and non-alcoholic beverages, which increased by 7.1 per cent; housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, which increased by 3.5 per cent; and restaurants and accommodation services, which increased by 3.9 per cent,” she said.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI), which measures changes in the general level of prices for consumer goods and services purchased by private households, reflects post‑Hurricane Melissa conditions, according to the Director General.

Meanwhile, Ms. Delatie‑Budair informed that the unemployment rate for the fourth quarter of 2025 was 3.3 per cent, noting that the reference period was October 5 to 11
