State Minister Says Public-Sector Transformation is Real

Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service, Hon. Fayval Williams, says the Government remains steadfast in its resolve to make public-sector transformation a reality.

“There should be no doubt in anyone’s mind that this Government is serious about public-sector transformation. Several bold steps have already been taken. The formation of an Economic Growth Council and the establishment of a Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation are but two public initiatives that have already received accolades from our international financial partners and the local business and civic communities,” she highlighted.

The State Minister added that what lies ahead for the public sector requires everyone to recommit energies towards “achieving the transformation of the public sector to a modern and efficient service provider”.

Mrs. Williams was bringing greetings at the National Church Service for the 25th Civil Service Week, held at the Hope United Church in Kingston on November 20.

She applauded civil servants for continuing to rise above the many challenges associated with working in the public sector and providing sterling service to the nation.

“We must pay tribute to our public officers and civil servants, who tirelessly demonstrate daily their commitment to the national agenda. I want, on behalf of the Government of Jamaica, to say to public-sector workers that, regardless of seniority, qualification or circumstance, we applaud all of you. We in no way take light your sacrifice and your contribution to the economic programme,” Mrs. Williams said.

Civil Service Week will be observed from Sunday, November 20 to Friday, November 25 under the theme ‘Driving Change: Celebrating Excellence in a Transformed Public Sector’.

The week-long celebration will include an exposition and concert at Emancipation Park on Tuesday (November 22), a Ministry and Department quiz competition and in-house activities.
