Twenty-two new Justices of the Peace (JPs) were sworn in on October 7, to serve St. Mary, adding to the 248 JPs already serving the parish.
The swearing-in ceremony, which was presided over by Custos of St. Mary, Hon. A.A. ‘Bobby’ Pottinger, was held at the St. Mary Anglican Church Hall, in Port Maria.
Those sworn in were: Mr. Lincoln George Allen, Mrs. Jeanette Marie Bryan, Mr. Emerald Ainsley Davis, Mr. Hugh Burn Dixon, Mrs. Rema Maud Edwards, Mr. Clayton George Gordon, Mr. Delroy Anthony Gordon, Mr. Michael George Hylton, Rev. Kenneth George Kirby, Dr. Dorothy Elaine Mathison, Mrs. Donna Marie Miller, Mrs. Ona Yvonne Neil, Mrs. Doreen Hutchinson, Mr. Anthony Leonard Robins, Mrs. Delceta Umrah, Rev. Winston Vidal, Mrs. Elaine Rosalee Swaby, Mrs. Gary Anthony Wallen, Mrs. Valery Trinita Walters, Rev. Roy Wickham, Mrs. Icilda Agatha Brown and Mr. Carlton Selbourne McLaren.
In congratulating the new JPs, Mr. Pottinger exhorted them to always conduct themselves with the highest level of integrity. He urged them to make a special effort to perform their role as community leaders and implored them to use that role to bring back love and harmony in their communities.
Senior Resident Magistrate for St. Mary, Mrs. Andrea Collins, commended the new JPs, and urged them to take the responsibilities associated with the office seriously.
She pointed out that the position to which they have been appointed would require them to provide service to the people, and encouraged them to always carry out the functions of their office with dignity and dedication.
