The Full Story

Health professionals, students, and cancer patients are being invited to explore the future of cancer treatment through innovations in nuclear medicine, at the Scientific Research Council’s (SRC’s) upcoming webinar.

Scheduled for September 12 at 1:00 p.m., the event, themed ‘Harnessing Atomic Power: The Future of Cancer Treatment Lies in Nuclear Medicine’, promises to be a pivotal opportunity for attendees to gain valuable insights into advancements in the field.

Marketing and Corporate Communications Manager of the SRC, Carolyn Rose Miller, told JIS News that individuals should prioritise the webinar, as nuclear medicine presents a groundbreaking approach to cancer treatment.

“It allows for a precise targeting of cancer cells, reducing damage to healthy tissues. You often hear that chemotherapy and other types of cancer treatment destroy good and bad cells, and as such, this is one option that persons can explore,” she said.

The session will feature a presentation by an experienced radiation oncologist, followed by a question-and-answer segment designed to engage and inform attendees.

“We encourage everyone with an interest in cancer treatment and nuclear medicine to join us, ask questions, and explore this transformative approach,” the Manager said.

Participants can join the webinar via Zoom free of charge. Interested parties are encouraged to visit the SRC’s social media platforms or contact the SRC via email at headsrc@src-jamaica.org for further information and to register.

The webinar also serves as a precursor to the Council’s 31st Science and Technology Conference at the Jamaica Conference Centre from October 29 to November 1.
