Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport (CGES), the Honourable Olivia ‘Babsy’ Grange, has expressed that the Ministry will actively pursue the introduction of a Mobile Sport and Wellness Unit.

Minister Grange highlighted that there has been a worrying increase in chronic and debilitating diseases in the human population worldwide, therefore, “the importance of constantly reinforcing the promotion of healthy lifestyle practices cannot be over-emphasized, if we are serious about the health of the population”.

Speaking at the Official Opening of the NHF/JCA Wellness Centre earlier today Minister Grange said, “This facility fits into my wider vision for the infrastructure which we as a Government must put in place to support our athletes, so that they can continue to excel on the world stage.”

“I will actively pursue the introduction of this Mobile Sport and Wellness unit which will roam the nooks and crannies across the island, to reach those athletes unable to access facilities such as this Health and Wellness Centre that is being opened today,” said the Minister.

Minister Grange congratulated the Jamaica Cricket Association, National Health Fund and CHASE Fund on the establishment of the Wellness Centre, primarily for cricketers, but will also be available to other sporting disciplines. “The fact that you have chosen to treat athletes in this decisive way is most worthy of commendation and indeed, emulation”.

The Minister urged all athletes to use the facility that is now available to them as they seek to adopt a healthy lifestyle.
