The Government of Jamaica will be awarding front-line workers for their outstanding contribution to the fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19).
Health and Wellness Minister, Dr. the Hon. Christopher Tufton, made the disclosure during the COVID Conversations digital press conference held on Thursday (June 10).
He said that those to be recognised not only include healthcare workers but also members of critical agencies on the front line in the COVID-19 fight.
“I want to just thank the teams in the field that have really been working hard and I also want to thank Minister [of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Hon. Olivia] Grange and the Cabinet, and the Prime Minister of Jamaica [the Most Hon. Andrew Holness], who have agreed for a special national award/medal for front-line workers to be administered at a future date,” he said
Dr. Tufton said he has been in discussion with Minister Grange about the look and feel of the medal to be awarded.
“We are thinking of engaging the public, possibly, in helping to apply the creativity around that,” he noted.
Minister Tufton expressed commendations and gratitude to the front-line workers in Jamaica.
“I really do believe that our front-line workers deserve some special recognition. We are not out of the woods, but in the last year they have really gone beyond the call of duty,” he said.
