Minister of Local Government, Community Development and Sports, Portia Simpson-Miller today (August 16), met with members of Jamaica’s track and field delegation who returned from the 10th World Athletic Championships in Helsinki, Finland, at the Norman Manley International Airport.
Danielle Browning, 4x100m relay silver medallist, Lerone Clarke, 4x100m relay finalist and Moya Thompson, a member of the 4×400 relay, are the three athletes who returned with team coaches and officials and were greeted by Minister Simpson-Miller and Ministry officials.
The other athletes have either remained in Europe, due to meet commitments, or have returned to their US-based homes.
Jamaica achieved its best ever medal haul at the World Championships, garnering eight medals, including one gold, five silver and two bronze. This achievement surpassed their previous best of seven medals at the 1995 Championship in Sweden.
The impressive haul meant Jamaica finished 9th overall with the US topping the chart with a haul of 25 medals.
The nine-day championship ended on Sunday (August 14).
