The Policy and Action Plan intends, primarily, to support the goals of the country’s National Development Plan, Vision 2030 Jamaica, by reducing the risks posed to sectors such as: water, energy, agriculture, fisheries, coastal and marine resources, health, mining, tourism, planning, and disaster risk reduction and response management.

One of the Government’s key priorities in promoting Environmental and Climate Change Resilience is to ensure that developers make rain water harvesting a part of their building structure. This is in keeping with the Rain Water Harvesting Policy as set out in the building code which is before the legislation committee.

Jamaica is now the highest ranked Caribbean country for its ease of doing business according to the 2015 World Bank Doing Business Report. The country moved up 36 places to a ranking of 58, bettering last year’s ranking of 94.

Jamaica has so far passed all five IMF tests under the four-year Extended Fund Facility with the multilateral agency as part of the government’s Economic Reform Programme.

To achieve this objective the Government has sought partnerships with numerous local and international organizations, both public and private, in securing well needed infrastructure to bolster national security efforts.

Effective Social Inclusion and Protection remains a strategic priority of the government. There is move to enact legislation to provide adequate social protection for all, including persons with disabilities. This will enable more persons with disabilities to take care of, and provide for themselves and their families.

Climate change is one of the biggest threats to sustainable economic development and the fight against poverty around the world…. and for Jamaica, it’s no different.
