July 30, 2008The Full Story
The Seville Heritage Park in St. Ann’s Bay will come alive with the sounds and sights of traditional folk forms as the Jamaica National Heritage Trust (JNHT) stages the annual Emancipation Jubilee on July 31.
The event is slated to begin at 4:00 p.m., and patrons will be treated to the pulsating sounds of traditional African drumming and other musical forms, storytelling and dramatic presentations, as well as exhibitions of artifacts.
At midnight, there will be a dramatic reading of the Emancipation Proclamation after which the ‘Live Wyaa Band’ will take centre stage, followed by a multiplicity of acts including Tony Rebel, Queen Ifrica, Judy Mowatt, and Little Hero.
Performances of traditional folk forms by the Manchioneal and the Islington Cultural groups as well as the Port Morant Kumina group, will take the live show through to daylight.
In addition to the exciting acts, patrons can enjoy sips of hot and delicious chocolate from enamel mugs, which has become a favourite at the annual show. Locals as well as tourists are expected to attend in large numbers as the event is one that seeks to bring persons together to celebrate the nation’s heritage.
Sponsors of Emancipation Jubilee 2008 include the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), RJR Communications Group, Wray and Nephew Limited, Courts Jamaica Limited, Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort and Spa, Dolphin Cove Attractions and Jamaica National Building Society (JNBS).
