Senior citizens and volunteers from the parishes of Kingston, St. Thomas, St. Mary and Portland were recognised for distinguished service at the regional awards ceremony of the National Council for Senior Citizens (NCSC) held Friday (September 27).

The ceremony, held at Cardiff Hotel and Spa in Runaway Bay, St. Ann, included the presentation of the Distinguished Senior Citizen Award, Outstanding Senior Citizen Award, the Award of Excellence in Volunteerism, the Corporate Service Award and the Diamond Club Award.

Minister of State in the Ministry of Labour and Social Security, Dr. the Hon. Norman Dunn, in his address at the function, lauded the seniors for paving the way for the future through their dedication, wisdom and unwavering spirit.

“You have shown us that age is not a limitation but it can be and should be a testament to a life of service, resilience and continued contribution. Your impact resonates far beyond your communities, and we salute your unwavering commitment,” he said.

“Because of your experiences, you can give greater direction. Through active involvement in family, cultural tradition and civic engagement, seniors help to strengthen the social fabric of our society, creating a more inclusive, understanding and empathetic environment for all of us. Your impact is not just a reflection of the past, but a guiding light for our future,” Dr. Dunn expressed.

He noted that the ceremony served as a celebration of dedication, passion and the indomitable spirit of the island’s seniors.

“You have built a foundation upon which our country now stands and your legacy will continue to inspire all of us. Congratulations on your well-deserved recognition. Your contribution has enriched our lives and our communities, and we are forever grateful to you. We encourage you to continue shining brightly and to serve as a beacon of inspiration for generations to come,” Dr. Dunn underscored.

Executive Director of the NCSC, Cassandra Morrison, congratulated the honourees. “We are proud of you. It’s our pleasure to acknowledge the work that you have done. Continue to serve well.”
