Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Senator the Hon. Aubyn Hill, has underscored the critical role of digital transformation in enhancing Jamaica’s economic growth.
“We must keep at the forefront of our minds that Jamaica’s digital transformation is non-negotiable. It is the engine of our future growth… . At our Ministry we are ensuring that digitisation, automation, innovation become the new standard for commerce, Investment, and entrepreneurship,” Senator Hill said.
“We are digitising public-sector services, slashing bureaucracy where we can, and ensuring transparency. We are building an ecosystem that makes it easier, faster, and more profitable to do business in Jamaica,” he added.
The Minister was addressing the opening ceremony of the third staging of the eGov Jamaica Limited Digital Government Technology Showcase on Thursday (March 13) at The Jamaica Pegasus hotel in Kingston.
The event was held under the theme, ‘Digital Transformation Unlocked: Shaping Jamaica’s Tomorrow’.
Outlining several critical digital transformation initiatives led by the Ministry, such as the Export Academy and the Jamaica Trade Information Portal (JTIP), Minister Hill said the Government is “equipping Jamaican businesses with digital tools to compete and win on the global stage”.
The Digital Government Technology Showcase highlighted technological advancements and initiatives contributing to the growth and development of Jamaica.
It featured presentations and exhibitions from various ministries, departments, and agencies, as well as information and communications technology vendors, showcasing their innovative digital solutions.
The event also included discussions on how technology has enabled the Government to serve citizens and businesses in a more efficient, transparent, and secure way.
