Secondary Students Invited to Enter WRA Essay Competition

The Ministry of Education and Youth in encouraging secondary-level students to enter the Water Resources Authority (WRA) 2024 Essay Competition, for which entry is now open.

Students are invited to pen a paper of between 800 to 1,500 words on the topic ‘The water management strategies and technologies that can address climate issues in Jamaica’.

The Education Ministry, in a bulletin, said that the primary objective of the competition is to provide an opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of water management and its crucial role in mitigating climate challenges.

Entries should include a cover page that has the following information – name of student, a valid Tax Registration Number (TRN), name of school, student date of birth, grade, teacher’s telephone number and email address, the essay topic, and a bibliography.

The cover page information and the bibliography should not be a part of the word count. Entries considered to be “over-assisted” will be disqualified.

The first, second and third-place entries will receive monetary gift vouchers and gift baskets, and the winner’s school will receive a 400-gallon water tank.

Submission deadline is March 8 and all essays submitted will become the property of the WRA.

The WRA is charged with regulating, protecting, and managing Jamaica’s water resources and influencing the processes of distribution, conservation, sustainability, and safety of supply.
