The Full Story

The Sports Development Foundation (SDF) will be providing funding for several infrastructure development projects during the 2021/22 fiscal year.

Details are outlined in the Jamaica Public Bodies Estimates of Revenue and Expenditure for the year ending March 2022.

According to the document, the SDF will fund the construction of seven multipurpose courts – three in St. Catherine, two in St. Elizabeth, and one each in Manchester and Kingston.

The entity will also finance the construction of five playing fields, equipped with adequate access to water, in three parishes.

Two will be developed in St. Andrew, and one each in St. Catherine, Clarendon and Hanover.

The SDF will also support the installation of synthetic surfaces at national sports venues.

Among these is the Catherine Hall track in St. James, which will provide training facilities for athletes in western Jamaica and host track and field events.

The Foundation has also programmed the provision of support, such as assistance with training and rehabilitation costs, to athletes and sports administrators who represent Jamaica at the national level.

These engagements are in keeping with the SDF’s continued thrust to foster the advancement of sports in Jamaica through specialist training, technical support, and other human development programmes.

An agency of the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, the SDF was incorporated as a company limited by guarantee to promote and encourage the development of sports talent, and the expansion of activities and facilities pertaining to all aspects of sports.
