New President of the Rotary Club of Mandeville, Manchester, Dr. Olajide Adekeye, has said that the group will continue to raise funds to provide more equipment for the Mandeville Regional Hospital.
“It is part of our community responsibility to equip this major medical facility in central Jamaica with state-of-the-art equipment, and we intend to provide equipment worth over US$50,000 to the institution,” he said.
The new President was installed at the club’s 2009 annual installation banquet, held at the Mandeville Hotel, on July 1.
“In this Rotary year, we shall continue to work for the health and well-being of not only children, but their families and the people of Mandeville,” Dr. Adekeye said.
He pledged to continue the work undertaken by his predecessors, particularly in the area of serving communities, by providing needed equipment for health facilities, and to support persons in need.
The President asked his fellow Rotarians to direct their efforts in the areas where the greatest needs exist in the community, such as literacy, water for basic schools, and general service to communities.
“Emphasis will be on water, because it is the first necessity for every man, woman and child. We must work to bring clean water to those who lack it, especially the rural and basic schools in Mandeville. Our plan this year is designed to strengthen and proclaim the core values of Rotary – service, fellowship, diversity, integrity, and leadership,” he emphasised.
During the last administration, under the Presidency of McClooney Blair, the Mandeville Regional Hospital received several state-of-the-art medical equipment from the club. They also donated water tanks to basic schools in the parish, and donated cash to the Sickle Cell Foundation.
“I look forward to receiving your support to help me guide our wonderful Club on the path that has been laid out for us, toward a stronger Rotary, and a better, healthier, and peaceful Mandeville community. I cannot do it alone, and I know that you will not fail me, for I know you are passionate about our Club,” he told fellow Rotarians.
