Rock Solid’s Growth Shows Potential of Local Manufacturing – Seiveright

Minister of State in the Ministry of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Hon. Delano Seiveright, says Rock Solid Plastics Limited’s rapid growth demonstrates the potential for Jamaican small businesses to scale, create jobs and deepen local production.

Mr. Seiveright made the remarks during a tour of the company’s manufacturing facility on Ashenheim Road in St. Andrew on Tuesday (September 22).

Established in 2020 with approximately five employees, Rock Solid has grown to employ more than 40 workers while significantly expanding its manufacturing capacity.

The company reports that it has produced more than 150,000 water tanks since inception, with thousands now being manufactured annually.

“This is precisely the kind of growth we want to see, Jamaican businesses starting small, investing, increasing production and moving into the medium and eventually large-business space,” Mr. Seiveright said.

“The move from five employees to more than 40 is significant, but the multiplier effect is even greater. Manufacturing supports suppliers, transportation, distribution, retail and many other businesses and livelihoods,” he added.

The Minister of State said the company’s progress also reflects the importance of Jamaica’s stable economic environment and Government policies aimed at encouraging investment and productive activity.

He pointed to the Productive Inputs Relief (PIR) Scheme as one of the practical mechanisms available to eligible manufacturers to reduce the cost of productive inputs and support increased production.

“Government has worked hard to maintain economic stability and improve the environment for investment and business growth. Through initiatives such as PIR and the work of MIIC, JBDC (Jamaica Business Development Corporation) and our other agencies, our focus is on helping Jamaican businesses overcome barriers, improve productivity, invest and grow,” Mr. Seiveright said.

Rock Solid manufactures water-storage tanks ranging from 200 to 2,500 gallons and has diversified into other plastic products, including garbage bins, planters and access chambers.

The company also repurposes material from old and damaged tanks for selected secondary products.

Mr. Seiveright commended the team, noting that the company represents a new generation of Jamaican entrepreneurs investing in local manufacturing.

“Rock Solid is fast becoming one of our standout locally owned manufacturing companies. We need many more businesses making this journey,” he said.

“Our objective is not simply to help people start businesses. We want micro businesses to become small businesses, small businesses to become medium-sized businesses, and medium-sized businesses to become large Jamaican companies. That means more jobs, more production and a stronger Jamaican economy,” Mr. Seiveright said.

The State Minister, who was joined by Chief Executive Officer of the JBDC, Daenia Ashpole, toured the company’s operation’s, which was led by Managing Director, Andrew Simpson.
