A Road Rehabilitation Project has received $101.97 million in the 2016/17 Estimates of Expenditure, through the Kuwaiti Fund for Development.
As outlined, the project seeks to contribute to the economic development of Jamaica by improving approximately 57 kilometres of road network to support agricultural, industrial and tourism activities in the parish of St. Mary, St. Ann and Westmoreland.
The following activities will be undertaken for the fiscal year: the acquisition of 20 parcels of land along Toms River to Agualta Vale Road (St. Mary); and the award of contract to facilitate the commencement of works on the rehabilitation of the Broadgate to Agualta Vale road section and achieve 10 per cent completion.
Achievements to date include: the signing of a loan agreement; designs completed; supervision consultant pre-selected; surveys for land acquisition undertaken; negotiations commenced for land acquisition; and tender evaluation for a contractor to undertake the rehabilitation of the Broadgate to Agualta Vale road section, completed.
