Construction of the Portmore Resilience Park is now at the halfway point and is slated to be opened this summer.
Prime Minister, Dr. the Most Hon. Andrew Holness, who made the announcement in his 2025/26 Budget Debate presentation in the House of Representatives on March 20, said it is one of several projects in the pipeline for the Urban Development Corporation (UDC).
He said ground will be broken for the RainTree Commercial Complex, a 69-lot commercial and light industrial subdivision in Caymanas, St. Catherine.
“This development is part of a larger 4,000-unit residential and mixed-use transformation planned for the Caymanas area,” the Prime Minister informed.
In a significant move towards urban renewal, the Kingston Harbour Walk will be expanded with support from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) and the World Bank, ushering in a new era of sustainable development in downtown Kingston and Port Royal.
In addition, the roadway from the Norman Manley International Airport (NMIA) roundabout to Port Royal will be improved and expanded to include a dedicated cycling lane and jogging trail.
This will be undertaken by the National Works Agency (NWA), in collaboration with the National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA), and the National Heritage Trust.
“Kingston and, indeed, the wider Jamaica need more dedicated, purpose-built, recreational infrastructure,” the Prime Minister noted.
