Residents of Trelawny Encouraged to Build a Greater Future

Residents in the parish of Trelawny are being encouraged to use the time of celebrating Jamaica’s Diamond Jubilee, to reflect on the country’s journey from its colonial past and contribute to building a greater future.
Speaking at the Independence Day civic ceremony held in Falmouth on Saturday (August 6), Chairman of the Trelawny Municipal Corporation and Mayor of Falmouth, Councillor Colin Gager said it was “time to embrace the opportunity to chart our destiny as a people.”
“I encourage us all to do our best in everything, so that we can truly be reignited for greatness,” he stated.
The two-hour ceremony included the reading of the Prime Minister’s message by the Mayor, while the Governor General’s message was read by the Custos Rotulorum of Trelawny, the Hon. Hugh Gentles.
The Leader of the Opposition’s message was read by Councillor for the Ulster Spring Division, Dr. Pauline Foster Grant.
Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Trelawny Municipal Corporation, Ms Lavern Morris officially welcomed the guests, following the prayer and invocation from Bishop Delton Collins.
Senior Officer in the Trelawny Municipal Police, Clive Moses, assisted by members of his department, raised the national flag. The parish’s Festival Queen for 2022, Tramaine Campbell led the recitation of the National Pledge.
Other civic and political officials in attendance were Councillor for the Falmouth Division, Garth Wilkinson, Councillor for the Wakefield Division, Jonathan Bartley, Deputy Superintendent of Fire in charge of Trelawny, Carol Wilmot and Deputy Superintendent of Police, Winston Milton.
The programme also saw cultural performances from the Trelawny Song and Dance Ensemble and vocalist, Raheem Wellington, while the Falmouth Marching Band led the procession.
