The Full Story

More than 90 certificates of title have been issued to persons in St. Ann and St. Mary under the Government’s Land Settlement Programme.
The titles were handed out on Wednesday (July 9) by Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister, Daryl Vaz, at the Baptist Church Hall in Ocho Rios, St. Ann.
“I want all the beneficiaries present here today and those in surrounding communities to know that this administration will be working tirelessly to bring security of tenure to ordinary Jamaicans. This means that for all those land settlements stuck at the Parish Councils, we will be working to get them farther along the titling process,” the State Minister said.
He further pointed out that for those settlements that are yet to be surveyed, steps would be taken to have them completed over time.
“Many of you have been waiting for as long as 40 years to get your titles,” he said, pointing out that he was very pleased to issue certificates of title to many who have been waiting for such a long time.
He congratulated the beneficiaries and wished them all the best as they moved forward towards prosperity.
Meanwhile, Gwendolyn Royes, a beneficiary, told JIS News that she was happy to receive her certificate of title.
“My father died in the year 1989 and I have been waiting from that time until now. I am living in the Bronx to date, but I came down to Jamaica last week just so that I could attend this function and collect my title. I know that with this title in my possession, I am a whole lot richer than I was a few days ago, so I am feeling very happy about receiving it,” she said.
