The Full Story

Minister of Industry, Investment and Commerce, Hon. Anthony Hylton, says the relocation of Jamaica Promotions Corporation’s (JAMPRO) regional office from the town centre to the Montego Bay Convention Centre in Rose Hall, St. James, will strengthen the image of the organisation.

Addressing the official opening of the new site on July 24, the Minister said it will also boost JAMPRO’s ability to better accommodate global investors, as Jamaica moves towards a logistics-centred economy.

“JAMPRO’s Western Regional Office has always been the ‘go-to-agency’ for international business clients, as well as our local investors and business people, especially our export clients, covering the regions of St. Ann, Trelawny, Hanover, Westmoreland and St. Elizabeth,” Minister Hylton noted.

“It is for these reasons and much more, that the Ministry and JAMPRO have placed high priority on building and deepening our relationship with you, the citizens and leaders of this dynamic and exceptional region of the country.  JAMPRO’s new ‘enhanced business space’ is also part of a larger plan to extend the reach of  key agencies providing information about capacity building services for the medium, small and micro sized enterprises (MSMEs),” he added.

The Minister argued that in global business and marketing, style and substance are essential ingredients for success, and that by relocating the office, JAMPRO will be in a stronger position to grow and expand Jamaica’s business profile, thus convincing the world that the country is a viable and credible investment destination.

“What we do here today will drive our movement forward to build a highly efficient logistics-centred economy that represents our best chance to be a competitive nation, that is integrated in the world trading system and global value chains,” the  Minister said.

Noting that the mission of JAMPRO is to be “a catalyst for wealth creation through trade and investment that leads to an enhanced quality of life for all Jamaicans,” Mr. Hylton called on Jamaicans to give maximum support to the office.
