The Ministry of Labour and Social Security has provided relief items valued at approximately $400,000 to 62 shelters in Clarendon between Saturday, September 11 and Wednesday, September 15. Delroy Palmer the Ministry’s Parish Manager for Clarendon, told JIS News that the items included rice, flour, canned meat, cooking oil, powdered milk and porridge mixes, toiletries, disinfectant and bleach.
According to Mr. Palmer, about 3,500 persons benefited from the assistance. “The Ministry of Labour and Social Security is committed to providing relief to those persons who have been seriously affected by the hurricane,” he stated.
Meanwhile, the Clarendon Welfare Committee commenced house to house damage assessment in the parish on September 15 and the process is expected to continue over the next three weeks.
