The Full Story

Registration is now open for the third staging of the Public Sector Debate Competition.

The event, scheduled to take place between May and July 2024, will engage teams comprising government employees in parliamentary-style debating on matters relating to public-sector transformation and current affairs.

Interested ministries, departments and agencies are invited to complete the registration form via the Transformation Implementation Unit (TIU) website at www.publicsectortransformation.gov.jm.

Teams should consist of five members – three speakers and two reserves.

Executive Director, TIU, Maria Thompson Walters, told JIS News that the competition is an opportunity for employees to influence the discourse on building a better public sector and shaping their place of work.

“We are proud of the discourse and participation that have transpired in the last two stagings of the competition, and look forward to an even more spirited and involved staging this year,” she said.

Last year, the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service was crowned winner of the competition, copping more than $1 million in cash and prizes.
Registration for this year’s competition, which has more than $3.5 million in cash and prizes up for grabs, closes on March 29.

The Public Sector Debate Competition is spearheaded by the TIU in partnership with the Jamaican Association for Debating and Empowerment Limited (JADE).
