The Registrar General’s Department (RGD) has adjusted its opening hours as part of measures to contain the risk of transmission of the coronavirus (COVID-19).

Effective Wednesday (March 18), the offices across the island will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on weekdays until further notice.

Marketing and Planning Manager at the RGD, Nicole Whyte, told JIS News that during this period, the RGD will be providing limited services to include express applications, birth and death registration, along with the collection of birth certificates.

She said that bedside registration of births will also continue.

For all other services, persons are encouraged to apply and pay for those online at www.rgd.gov.jm.

Additionally, Ms. Whyte informed that for confirmed registry weddings, these will continue as planned. However, the attendees will be limited to the bride, the groom and two witnesses.

Ms. Whyte said that persons who wish to postpone their weddings, will be able to do so without incurring a fee, as these will be waived.

The RGD will not be accepting applications for registry weddings at this time.
