Reggae Boyz Head Coach Pleased With Team’s Performance

Reggae Boyz Head Coach, Rudolph Speid, is expressing satisfaction with the team’s ball possession, control, and passing accuracy in their victory over Guatemala in their Concacaf Nations League opener.

The Reggae Boyz secured a 3-2 come-from-behind victory in the match held at the National Stadium on Friday (Sept. 25) night, which was attended by Minister of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, Hon. Olivia Grange and FIFA President, Gianni Infantino.

Speaking during a post-match press conference, Mr. Speid said he was pleased with the team’s ability to control the tempo of the game and dominant possession, which peaked at about 70 per cent.

“That was pleasing. Normally, we don’t have that amount of control. Our pass accuracy was good, about 89 per cent. So, I’m pleased with those aspects of the game,” he said.

As the Reggae Boyz prepare to face Honduras on Monday (Sept. 28), Mr. Speid said he expects a challenging encounter.

“I expect them [Honduras] to be tough. I expect them to be wary too because they would have seen us play and have a good understanding of what we are likely to do,” he noted.

He said the Reggae Boyz will continue to compete strongly and focus on playing “proper football”.

“This is Jamaica. We are going to fight them [Honduras] every step of the way and try to play properly while we’re doing it and see what happens,” he said.

Minister Grange said she was impressed with the national team’s victory.

“Congratulations Reggae Boyz,” she told JIS News following the match.

Monday’s match against Honduras will kick off at 7:00 p.m.
