Youth Reducing Textile Waste – UNICYCLE Jamaica

Textile recycling is defined as reprocessing pre- and post-consumer textile waste for use in brand-new textile or non-textile goods.  In other words it extends the usable service life of textile products from one owner to another through practices such as borrowing, renting, trading, swapping, inheriting, thrifting among others. Dedicated to preserving the environment for the long term, 17-year-old Maria Greenland and her older brother Rhys Greenland created a sustainable, textile initiative dubbed UNICYCLE Jamaica, aimed at reducing textile waste in Jamaica and it focuses on recycling and across the island.
