Hurricane Ian, described by weather forecasters as a major hurricane, recently passed through the Province of Pinar del Rio in Cuba and the State of Florida in the United States, resulting in major damage to infrastructure and the loss of several lives.
With communities of Jamaicans in both areas, naturally there was concern about their safety and well-being. This prompted queries by the Government through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade.
Portfolio Minister, Senator Kamina Johnson Smith, recently provided an update on the status of Jamaicans in both territories, noting that happily, there has been no cause for grief.
