Heat stress is defined by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) as a situation in which the body is unable to expel excess heat, adding stress to the body and increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses and difficulties responding to existing vulnerabilities. They report that 1 in 4 children globally are exposed to frequent heat waves. In an effort to mitigate against the rising temperatures affecting students and staff, the Ministry of Education and Youth recently issued a number of recommendations and directives for schools.
