Chances are you’ve heard of the “winds of change” a phraseology made popular after a famous 1960 speech by then UK Prime Minister Harold Macmillan. His words advocated decolonization in South Africa and the African continent on a whole, (a departure from centuries-old tradition), and so, in the present, the phrase tends to refer to the inevitable upset life brings to established norms.

For residents in the west of Jamaica, the ‘winds’ of hurricane Melissa set a new global record with a wind gust of 252 miles per hour, measured near Jamaica in late October. They swept away stability and many a roof, but in their aftermath, also brought a groundswell of support and care. We explore one such endeavour.
