The unemployment rate declined to a new record low of 7.8 percent in April 2019. April’s figure is 2 percentage points lower than the 9.8 percent recorded for April 2018. Director General of the Statistical Institute of Jamaica (STATIN), Carol Coy, says the number of persons unemployed in April was 105 thousand 400, a 19.7 percent drop when compared to the same period in 2018.
