Norman Manley High School, named in honour of the island’s first and only Premier and National Hero, the Right Excellent Norman Washington Manley, is celebrating its golden jubilee. A yearlong series of activities in recognition of the milestone was launched in September at the institution’s location in Maxfield Avenue, Kingston with the release of 50 balloons featuring the school’s colours – blue and green. Tarrant High School in Kingston is positioning its students to take advantage of jobs in the areas of robotics, programming and animation. Principal, Paul Hall, who has been at the helm of the school since 2017, says the institution is already creating a name for itself in the area of robotics. The Enid Bennett High School, based in Bog Walk, St. Catherine, is one of 200 schools set to save as much as 50 percent on its annual water bill as the institution is benefit from the establishment of a rainwater harvesting system by the Rural Water supply Limited. The system, valued at 7 million dollars, comprises four 1,000-gallon black tanks, a 20,000-gallon block and steel tank, a solar-powered pump, and other features to harvest, store and use the precious commodity.

Teachers and students at Tarrant High School in St. Andrew are set to benefit from the establishment of a Smart Math lab at the institution. Principal, Paul Hall, says Tarrant High like many other schools, has a challenge with mathematics, and the main idea behind the creation of the lab is to use technology to engage the children, who for the most part, are visual learners and technologically-savvy. The lab will be equipped with the latest technology that will allow instructors to interact with mathematics specialists from anywhere in the world through smartphones and other devices while they teach.

Nestled in the northeast region of St. Catherine in the rural district – Glengoffe you will find the Grateful Hill Primary and Infant School. Principal of the institution, George Moodie says the school has rolled out several initiatives to boost literacy and numeracy and expand students’ skills. In addition to creating a positive environment for students to grow academically, there is also a thrust to introduce students to agricultural practices to among other things, sustain the sector. To this end, Grateful Hill Primary has established a thriving agricultural project with the support of the St. Catherine 4-H Clubs, Rural Agricultural Development Authority, Social Development Commission and Jamaica Broilers.
