Montego Bay Waterfront Rehabilitation Programme & Beach Park

The Montego Bay Waterfront has been seeing the effects of climate change with rising sea levels and decreasing shorelines, evident in the loss of some 7.7 acres of beach from Closed Harbour to One Man Beach over the past 25 years. The Government through the Urban Development Corporation has stepped in to minimize the deterioration of the shoreline.

Work continues on the Closed Harbour Beach Park Development Project in Montego Bay, St. James, which is being funded by the Government of Jamaica, Tourism Enhancement Fund (TEF), St. James Municipal Corporation and the Inter-American Development Bank, under the Urban Development Corporation (UDC’s) Montego Bay Redevelopment Programme. The 16-acre property, formerly known as Dump-Up Beach, is being transformed into a recreational space, with amenities that will allow it to operate as a free access, licenced public beach.
