The World Bank has confirmed that total damages from Hurricane Melissa are estimated at over US $8.8 representing 41 percent of the country’s gross domestic product in 2024. Addressing a press briefing at Jamaica House on Wednesday, director for Caribbean Countries at the World Bank Lilia Burunciuc, outlined that their assessment focuses only on the physical damage done to the country, and excludes economic damage and costs for rebuilding facilities and institutions.
