Kingston Creative has been a quiet but transformative force, changing the Downtown, Kingston space in recent months. One does not have to look far for the physical evidence, only take a trip to Water Lane, Church Street, Harbour Street and Rosemary Lane and observe the aesthetic difference being made through the organisation’s, Art Walk and mural projects. However, there have been concerns about the extent to which these efforts benefit the residents of Downtown. Have you been seeing murals popping up all across the Corporate Area? Chances are they were painted as part of a multidimensional mural project titled, ‘Paint Up Yu Creative Space’, being spearheaded by the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport and the Kingston and the St. Andrew Municipal Corporation. The project, which will be undertaken in three phases, aims to promote Kingston’s international designation as a Creative City.
