When you hear the phrase castor bean, the first thing that usually comes to mind is castor oil. The oil itself is very valuable with the global castor oil industry estimated to be worth approximately 187 million US dollars. Of that amount, Jamaican Black castor oil accounts for 28 million US dollars and the global market is expected to grow by over 4 percent.
The many applications for the oil, means farmers have a wide market for the product. And that’s where the Jamaica Business Development Corporation (JBDC) Grow Castor Bean project workshop comes in.
