As of January 27, persons wishing to apply for a Provisional Drivers’ License or a ‘Learner’s License’ must first pass the new Road Code Test. The new road code test was introduced under the new Road Traffic Act, which was amended in 2018 to require the mandatory sitting and passing of the test before Provisional Drivers’ Licenses are issued.

The National Works Agency NWA has started works to fix the Bowden Hill Bridge in St. Andrew at a cost of over 30 million dollars. Earlier this year a 35 million dollar contract was awarded to fix a section of the broken Bowden Hill Roadway but following heavy rainfall in mid February the Bowden Hill Bridge was washed away. The government will be implementing a 1.3 billion dollar Special Mitigation Programme in communities across Jamaica. The programme will involve the combined efforts of the National Works Agency, NWA, National Solid waste Management Authority, NSWMA and the Ministry of Health. The National Works Agency NWA is currently working on its road marking project for the North Coast Highway, with 90 percent of phase one now complete. The Programme will address 37 kilometres of roadway in two Phases, with phase one spanning Runaway Bay in St. Ann from to Braco in Trelawny and phase two from Braco to Falmouth.
