Under the Public Health Act, all persons operating in the food trade despite their position, must have an up-to-date food handler’s permit.
That includes cook shop operators, fruit and fish vendors and cashiers.
In fact, President of the Jamaica Association of Public Health Inspectors Michael Myles says as soon as a person harbours an idea of entering the food trade, they should seek out information about the food handlers permit.
