There are multiple projects happening across the island under the Major Infrastructure Development Programme MIDP, and it’s time for a progress report on the Camp Road and Barbican Projects. Starting with works on Camp Road in Kingston, so far works on the busy corridor, which sees over 22 thousand vehicles daily, are currently at over 51 per cent completion. Works on that project include the dualisation of 600 metres of the roadway, upgrading and signalizing of the Arnold Road Cannon Ball Gate intersection, and the construction of a sentry post.

Effective drainage systems are a key feature of proper road management, in relation to preserving the lifespan of the road and the quality. In light of this, the National Works Agency, NWA will be executing drainage works across several roadways in St. Elizabeth. The 12 million dollar project is expected to affect 7 communities in the bread basket parish.

Making commuting easier is a big part of what the NWA does and as such, it has begun works to improve the movement of traffic on one of the nation’s busiest thoroughfares – Mandela Highway. The NWA is undertaking roadworks to improve the experience of motorists attempting to enter Portmore from the Mandela Highway via the Old Ackee Village road during peak hours. Senior Communications Officer at the NWA Ramona Lawson tells us more.

Work on the Ferris to Mackfield Improvement Project is on the brink of completion as the National Works Agency is in the final stages of executing the project. All major activities have been completed on the 24.9 Million US dollar contract which involves the rehabilitation of 13 kilometres of roadway. The Ferris to Mackfield Project involves the extensive widening and realignment of the corridor to remove several of the corners normally associated with the roadway.
