A wreath laying ceremony was held on Sunday December 22, at the Zong Monument in Black River, St Elizabeth, to honour and remember the lives of the African slaves who died in the Zong Massacre of 1781. The Zong Massacre saw the throwing overboard of 132 slaves to lighten the slave ship, The Zong, which left the western coast of Africa, bound for Black River with approximately 440 enslaved Africans.
