Career Talk – Volunteering for National Relief

It’s often said that "The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others." And as Jamaica kickstarts its journey to recovery from the devastation of Hurricane Melissa on October 28, the Government of Jamaica is calling for all hands-on deck launching a National Registry of Volunteers.

Over 170 public sector workers are set to participate in a three-month Spanish course offered by the Embassy of the Republic of Colombia. Now in its seventh staging, the programme represents a tangible step towards greater multilingualism and international cooperation within the public service.

Through technology and digital literacy training, the "iamtheCODE" Youth Empowerment Initiative is addressing the current global skills shortage in marginalized communities worldwide in the fields of not STEM but STEAMD (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics, entrepreneurship, and design) with the goal of producing a generation of one million women and girls who are coders by 2030.
