C-CAM Foundation Prioritizes Environment Protection for Labour Day

Jamaica is well known for its rich biodiversity, boasting thousands of species of flowering plants and ferns, more than four hundred of which are considered threatened or endangered due to land clearing, habitat loss and environmental changes.

On Labour Day 2026, the Caribbean Coastal Area Management Foundation, better known as C-CAM, sought to help reverse that trend through a restoration project in Hellshire, St. Catherine, focused on planting the endangered Consolea spinosissima better known as the spiny tuna cactus within the Portland Bight Protected Area.
