Local Character Designer and Illustrator, Danielle Parchment, has welcomed the experience gained, after participating in a two-month summer programme at Capilano University in Canada. Danielle, was the winner of the Character Design category at this year’s KingstOOn 2019 animation competition. Her entry was entitled ‘Gabby – The Duppy Conqueror’. Among her prizes was the opportunity to participate in a two-month summer course at Capilano University.

Residents of Top Hill and Retirement District in Malvern, St. Elizabeth, now have access to free potable water, following the opening of two water shops in the parish. The two communities are the latest to benefit under the Government’s initiative which involves setting up tanks and a storage facility to ease water shortage.

Students of the Caribbean Christian Centre for the Deaf (CCCD) now have the benefit of a community access point CAP, with the provision of Internet and other computer-related services. The centre, the newest of 312 to be established across the island, is outfitted with 15 desktop computers, one Internet broadband server and supporting network capability. The facility was established by the Universal Service Fund, USF at a cost of approximately 7.6 million dollars.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the government is working to procure new pipelines to replace older water mains in the areas of Olympic and Molynes Gardens and the wider western St. Andrew area. The pipelines are over 60 years old and can no longer effectively carry the pressure and volume of water flowing through them, without breaking. Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the line that runs along Spanish Town Road is in need of attention due to its fragile state.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness, has announced that upgrades to Penwood High School in West Central St. Andrew will begin in short order. Among the renovations being targeted are improvements to the auditorium, staff room and general administrative building as well as the addition of new classrooms. The Prime Minister says the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information has already scoped the project and the design plans have been submitted.
